The Smartish Teacher
I was once the student who worked hard but couldn't seem to get the results I wanted.
I studied, I tried, and I cared—but my grades didn't always reflect my effort. Even in college, I learned that working harder wasn't always the answer. I didn't yet have the systems I needed to study effectively, manage my time, stay consistent, or recognize when I needed to change my approach.
Once I learned how to learn and began to trust my own process, everything changed. I became more confident because I had strategies I could use—and knew when to pause, reassess, and pivot.
I went on to graduate with honors and have spent the past 25 years in education, teaching, tutoring, developing curriculum, and supporting students and families.
Real progress is a partnership between the student, parent, and educator.
I bring the experience, strategies, and perspective; students practice and build the skills; parents provide the support that helps those skills carry into everyday life.
Sometimes students don't need to be smarter. They just need a better strategy.
